Haryana: ‘Selfie With Daughter’ activists in fray

Women associated with the ‘Selfie with Daughter’ campaign of 2015 have entered the panchayati elections in Haryana. Their manifestoes include subjects of women’s empowerment, education, sports and health. The campaign was started in Jind district’s Bibipur village.

HISAR: Women associated with the ‘Selfie with Daughter’ campaign of 2015 have entered the panchayati elections in Haryana. Their manifestoes include subjects of women’s empowerment, education, sports and health.
The campaign was started in Jind district’s Bibipur village. The women are also promising WiFi internet and CCTV cameras in villages.
There are eight women candidates in the fray from four districts of the state, including six for the post of sarpanch, one for zilla parishad member, and one for block samiti member.

Of these, four candidates are from Hisar.
Sunil Jaglan, chairman of Selfie with Daughter Foundation, said he had has prepared a separate manifesto for each candidate and will also get them implemented within the stipulated time. Among major announcements in the manifestoes, the candidates have announced to host a ‘Selfie with Daughter’ competitions every year.
“Monthly meetings of the gram panchayat will be held with the youth. There will be a grand gym in which separate arrangements will be made for women’s gym, a library in the village with arrangements for offline and online coaching, a library, tailoring and self-defence training for women,” he said.

Earlier, through ‘sarpanch guidance and counselling centre’, the foundation had also launched a campaign to inform village representatives about their rights. Under this, apart from Haryana, sarpanches were also made aware about Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Goa.
